ABOUT “(City Name)”
“Bang Sare was established as a subdistrict in 1979. Initially, it was a village under the jurisdiction of Na Jomtien subdistrict. As the village expanded, Mr. Prasom Sri-sama-ang petitioned to separate Bang Sare from Na Jomtien and establish it as an independent subdistrict, with Mr. Yai In-anon as the first headman.
Historically, the area was known as “Samreh.” Before the establishment of any settlements, pirates, or locals referred to as “slad nam” (water pirates), would use this region as a base to ambush passing ships. After looting, they would bring the ships to the shores of Samreh, kill the crew, seize their possessions, and burn the vessels. In some cases, after plundering, they would release the survivors, who would then settle in Samreh.
At one point, Phraya Chanthaburi, who had resided on Ko Samet Island in Ban Phe district, Rayong province, along with his wife, children, and numerous followers, fled the island after his death. They arrived at Bang Samreh Bay in about 5-6 ships, finding the location advantageous due to its coastal land and abundant resources, particularly rubber trees, which could be tapped for latex. They subsequently settled there.
Over time, the population of Bang Samreh grew significantly, leading to an influx of settlers. As a result, the authorities placed Bang Samreh under the administration of Na Jomtien subdistrict.”
