ABOUT “WATPRADOO”
Watpradoo Subdistrict Municipality is located in Mueang District, Surat Thani Province, covering an area of approximately 58 square kilometers (or 36,250 rai). It lies about 6 kilometers from the provincial city center. As of 2025, the municipality has a population of 21,192 people across 13,414 households.
The area is predominantly lowland and surrounded by rivers in nearly every village, making it a main transportation route into Surat Thani city and a hub for private sector investment, driving rapid economic growth. Around two-thirds of the area is used for agriculture and includes community forests, viewpoints, and natural tourist attractions.
Watpradoo aims to transform into a “Smart Livable City” through the use of modern innovation, focusing on sustainable quality of life and addressing issues related to the environment, governance, and economic development.

CITY GOALS
1. To develop Watpradoo into a livable municipality where residents enjoy a high quality of life, progressive living standards, and an environmentally friendly and sustainable urban development model.
2. To enhance urban and community management using technology and innovations suited to local context, ensuring efficient use of existing resources in line with Smart City principles.
3. To apply digital technology in municipal operations, and promote efficient urban development management systems.
CITY CONTEXT & NEEDS
Watpradoo’s geography as a lowland area encircled by rivers, and its location as a main gateway to Surat Thani city, make it an ideal site for private investment and economic expansion. However, the city faces increasing environmental issues, such as waste, air pollution, and chemical contamination from agriculture.
In addition, Watpradoo struggles with outdated systems and databases, delays in accessing public services, inaccurate issue reporting, and below-average household income.
To tackle these challenges, Watpradoo seeks to adopt digital technology and innovation to:
Improve the overall quality of life for residents in a sustainable and inclusive manner
Improve environmental friendliness
Enhance resource efficiency
Modernize public services
